Editorial standards and corrections policy
How Middle East Window reports, sources, corrects and separates news from opinion.
Middle East Window aims to give readers accurate, fair and clearly sourced coverage of the Middle East. These standards apply to everything we publish.
Accuracy and sourcing
- We verify facts before publication and attribute claims to their sources. Where a figure or claim is disputed, we say so and explain the competing accounts.
- We prefer primary sources: official documents, data, court records and on-the-record interviews. We link to them where we can.
- We do not publish rumours as fact, and we identify anonymous sources only when there is a clear public interest and no other way to report the information.
News, analysis and opinion
Every article is labelled by type:
- News reports events.
- Analysis and explainers add context and interpretation grounded in evidence.
- Profiles and reviews examine people, books and ideas.
- Opinion pieces present the author's argument and are clearly marked as such.
How we use technology
Our newsroom uses software tools, including AI, to monitor regional news, research primary sources and draft articles. Before anything is published it is automatically checked: every figure and claim is compared against the sources it came from, wording is checked for originality, and articles without enough primary sources are held back. The sources behind each article are listed at the end of it. Our editors review our coverage continuously and correct errors promptly under the corrections policy below.
Fairness and independence
We cover a region of deep political divisions and try to represent the main perspectives on contested issues fairly. Our coverage is not directed by governments, parties or advertisers. Sponsored content, if we publish it, is always labelled as such and kept separate from editorial content.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we correct it promptly and transparently. Substantive corrections are noted at the end of the article with the date of the change. To request a correction, email editor@middleeastwindow.com with the article's link and the specific passage.
